WHO We Are

AAOS (Australasian Association of Supervision) is a membership-driven, not-for-profit association, incorporated in NSW.

AAOS is at the forefront of developing educational and ethical standards for supervision in the professions of counselling, psychotherapy, pastoral practice, psychology, coaching, social work and related disciplines in Australia and New Zealand.

AAOS supports the continued professional development of supervisors by sourcing experts in those professions and related disciplines to assist practitioners in the enhancement of their skills.

AAOS seeks to promote a broader understanding of supervision in those professions and related disciplines.

AAOS recognises trainers and training organisations that deliver the level of supervisor training required for graduates to meet the criteria for Supervisor or Associate membership of the Association.

Ethics

AAOS fosters a commitment to values-driven professional supervision practice. See our Ethical Guidelines here.

AAOS has developed a procedure outlining the steps for handling of any professional complaint. Our Professional Conduct Procedure is currently being updated to encompass the online environment. It will shortly be available to download from this page.

Our History

AAOS began as a member-driven association called ASCCANZ (Association for Supervision, Coaching and Consultancy in Australia and New Zealand) founded in 2002 by corporate psychologist, author and strategy consultant Servaas van Beekum who had identified the need to support supervision as a profession. In 2006, after an independent strategic review and membership consultation, a full restructure ensued to re-position the association to have a sole focus on the profession of supervision. After a brief time as AOS (Association of Supervision) the name was modified to what it is today: AAOS (Australasian Association of Supervision) to better represent its geographic reach.
